Blog #3
I am reading the book Yellow Star for book clubs. The character that stands out to me is Sylvia. She is a survivior. Sylvia is one of the twelve children that are still alive and at the ghetto. Her family was told that all children had to leave the ghetta and board a train. But Sylvia and her dad desided to hide. They had to hide in a graveyard and in the grave of someone else. To me that shows someone who will risk a lot just to survive. Also when the Nazis tell everyone besides a few people to get on a different train, Sylvia and her family go into hiding again, this time in a cellar. The children are not allowed to go outside because it is too dangerous that the Nazis are going to see them. Sylvia is one of the older children in the cellar so she watches all the children while the parents work. To me this shows that Sylvia is a survivior because she is willing to spend a ton of time with eleven other kids to watch. Also Sylvia is caring. She has a little cousin Isacc. She always takes care of him in the cellar because he is the youngest child there. Also when Sylvia passed out while she was watching Isacc, the first thing that she thinks of when she wakes up is her little cousin Isacc. This shows that she is not only a survivior but caring also. Sylvia is someone to look up to and admire.
